If you are looking to visit this area of Costa Rica, pat yourself on the back (seems like the pacific side gets more love). If you are fortunate enough to be considering this ABB, pinch yourself. Then book. Here are some of my many reasons why. 1. Pictures are particularly confusing in this region. We stayed in three ABBs in the Cocles area. ALL the pictures are charming – beautiful cabins, wood furniture and planked roofs, colorful linens. However, if you are not accustomed to rustic, indoor / outdoor living with insectos (large and very small) by an ocean that keeps everything just a little bit wet, you may be interested in a few things not commonly featured in photos. Like, access to a washer/dryer to freshen up your sarongs and clothes; lots of sinks and soaps and brooms to keep things neat and the buggies at bay; powerful (yet quiet) fans to circulate the damp sea air at night; a really great bathroom with hot hot water to refresh after a long day on the sand. You get all these things (and more) at Chiquita (keep reading). For this home, I do not think the pictures do it justice, and indeed I picked it on the strength of the well-deserved reviews. 2. The facilities! Every aspect of your experience has been considered by Janet and Nick. First thing we did was rummage the cupboards and admire all the kitchen tools. This is a true home kitchen. I wont even begin to list what you will find. Then scan about and enjoy the design touches, down to the fan pulls or the garden fairly in the Viola bath. (Check out the guide book, which tells the family stories that inspired the casitas and rancho.) The set-up works for so many types of groups – one family, multiple families, girlfriends trip – as each person or family unit can enjoy a casita and everyone comes together in the rancho. The rancho, meanwhile, is brilliantly organized and furnished for people who need to be doing different things at diff times. I worked a few hours a day in one corner, the kids did online school in another section (the WIFI is excellent!) then hopped in the pool, my cousin cooked, while cool tunes played overhead on the bluetooth speaker system. 3. The location. You are RIGHT on the beach. (It is hard to appreciate this fact based on the listing, which I found to be the case with several others in the area.) And this beach is STUNNING. I have some more beaches to experience in this world, but I can’t imagine how this one does not make it on my top 5. There’s a high tide and low tide experience. Sunrise light, afternoon sprinkles. There’s something special to see if you go left or go right at the trailhead. This 4 mile strip is the best on offer between Puerto Viejo and Manzanilla. 4. Your hosts. If you ever thought about owning a B&B or being a superhost, welcome to your masterclass. Janet and Nick know so much about the area – the people, the fauna, the history – and really care about your stay. (Ask Janet where to get a good loaf of bread – aye!) I hope to return to see this family – they are wonderful people. A truly special trip. AIRBNB

Super comfortable house, great spaces and super nicely decorated. Also, Janet is an amazing host who will definitely make sure you have a great stay! Beware of the raccoons, make sure you don’t leave any food outside. Super close to a beach entrance so neither a car nor a bike is needed to go to the beach. The staff was also helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place. AIRBNB

Amazing place! You are actually staying at a rustic house with a real tree house feel! We loved it! We had monkeys over every day and you are surrounded by trees and beautiful tropical plants everywhere you look. Simply gorgeous! The pool is perfect to refresh yourself and simply sit and enjoy nature. Kitchen is well equipped, plenty of bathrooms, and very spacious. Some of us had to work while on our mini vaca and the kids had school and it was perfect! Internet access was a must and we had no problems at all. The beach is across the main road/street. Just follow a trail to the right and you will be in awe! As for Janet and Nick, they are very friendly, and when we needed assistance of any kind they were very attentive. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your home! AIRBNB

Amazing property beach front, high standard furniture, appliances… Casa Chiquita Escondida is a jewel, close to everything and surounded by the best garden i ever saw. Janet was always one message away for us, attention was perfect. The house have some very good resturants close by: Pura Gula, is the best but we also enjoyed pizza from L’Antico Il Forno. Supermarkets, fruit stands, french bakery, all you may need for a pleasant stay. We will definitly comeback. AIRBNB

We are a group of friends that are avid and competition fisherman. I was weary after reading some of these reviews, but our 1/2 day charter was excellent. Capt Pino has the only production make boat at the harbor. Quiet clean and a spacious 21 feet. Fishing started out slow ,but the capt made an incredible effort to get bait and we had almost non stop action on snapper king mackerel Spanish mackerel jacks and more. We chose a few yellow tail snapper and Nick ferried them over to a restaurant that cooked them. It was fantastic and very reasonably. Highly recommend!!!   TripAdvisor

My wife and I were met by the owner (Nick) before our appointed time. We explained this was our first time salt water fishing. Nick explained what the trip would encompass, and what to expect. Nick provided a cooler with drinks and snacks. We met the captain (Pino) and made him aware of our first time salt water fishing. Pino, is very knowledgeable about the reef area and the types of fish we would encounter. We did circle the reef, we did have several bites, and we did catch a couple of Jacks. In addition, we had a chance to snorkel and free dive for Caribbean Lobster. Our experience with Pino was excellent, the customer service was fantastic, Pino did everything he could to ensure our experience was enjoyable and a great memory for us. Thank you for a wonderful time and we look forward to doing this activity again in the future!!! TripAdvisor
